The BYU Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECEn Dept.) is located on the fourth floor (Room 450) of the new Engineering Building (EB) that is just south of the Clyde Building (CB) on the Brigham Young University Campus in Provo, Utah. (Note: The EB is new enough that it does now show up on many maps!) Provo is located in 4200 ft high Utah Valley and just less than an hour south of Salt Lake City in the State of Utah.

Provo enjoys a small town atmosphere with 105,000 residents, a nice business community, and two large universities. The 11,750 foot Mount Timpanogas dominates the skyline north of the city and the 23 mile long Utah Lake is just to the west. Perhaps Provo's biggest claim to fame is that it is the home of Brigham Young University. There are numerous hotels in Provo which are convenient to the BYU campus.

The international airport in Salt Lake City is the closest major airport to Provo and BYU. It is a major hub for Delta and Southwest airlines. You can either rent a car at the airport or take the bus shuttle service to Provo. The shuttle service can drop you off at your hotel or at the BYU Wilkinson Center.

Salt Lake Airport to BYU (driving)

To get to the Provo area from the Salt Lake City airport if you are driving: (Airport Access). It is approximately a 40-50 min drive from the Salt Lake City Airport to Provo. From the airport head take I-80 eastbound to the I-215 interchange. Take I-215 southbound toward Provo (follow the signs). Take I-215 South 3 or 4 miles to the I-15 interchange. Turn right (southbound) onto I-15 toward Provo. Travel I-15 South for about 45 miles to Orem City (which is just north and west of Provo). Here is a link from Google Maps.

Route from I-15 to BYU Campus (Detailed map) (Photo Map1) (Photo Map2) (Simple Map part 1) (Simple Map part 2) (Intermediate Map)

To get to the BYU campus from I-15 take the University Parkway exit (exit 269, marked as the BYU exit - east bound (left over the freeway). Follow University Parkway east to the BYU campus (about 4.4 miles). On the way you will pass a large mall on your left and go down a curving hill into Provo. At the bottom of the hill go past three lights to turn right (southbound) onto Canyon Road. Note: right before Canyon Road you will cross over University Ave. [Yes, you are ON University Parkway and crossing University Avenue]. Travel about 0.2 mile south on Canyon Road and turn left (east) at the second light onto Bulldog Blvd (1200 N) and drive up the hill. Turn right at the light. This is the main entrance to campus. The visitor's lot is on the left.

An alternate entrance to campus, and the one recommended, is to NOT turn onto University Ave but continue east on University Parkway past the stadium on your left until 900 East. A large building close to the road is on the left, with an open field on the right. Turn right (south) on 900 East and proceed about 0.5 mile south to Campus Lane, which is just past the light at 1200 N/Birch St. Turn right. The east vistor parking

At the top of the hill where a drive descends into an underground garage, turn left. The Clyde Building [CB] is the second building on the right. (Second building south of the Wilkinson Center). The Engineering Building [EB] is the building south of the CB. To get to it, walk past the descending drive and turn left. The EB is the second buildinging on the left. Alternately, your can turn left at the light down the hill (east of the Crabtree building). Walk south past the power plant. The EB is on the right at the bottom of the hill.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department office is on the fourth floor of the Engineering Building in room 450 EB. The MERS lab is on the fourth floor of the Clyde Building in room 480 CB. The Engineering Building has Harvey's cafe on the second floor. The campus bookstore and a cafeteria are available at the Wilkinson Center north of the engineering buildings.
