During the operational period of ADEOS-II two nearly identical SeaWinds instruments were flying. By combining the SeaWinds-on-QuikSCAT (termed QuikSCAT) and the SeaWinds-on-ADEOSII (termed SeaWinds per JPL convention) data sets into a single tandem mission, the temporal and spatial sampling is significantly improved.
