YSAR IMAGES - Qumran Site

The BYU Synthetic Aperature Radar Systems

Qumran is the site of an anceint settlement along the shore of the Dead Sea. This area is famous as the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Some of the ancient settlement has been excavated; a gift shop and other tourist attractions are at this site.

This site lies entirely at the base of a cliff. This caused higher turbulence, giving less-focused images. We also seem to have entirely missed the main target areas because they were so close to the cliffs. The dead sea and roads along it are visible in the images. An orchard can clearly be seen at the start of one image.
