Power Detection
Located Pulses (Received power with pulse power located - 251 K GIF)
Power detection is one of the most crucial points in the analysis because the accuracy of error minimization is limited by the power detection error. This is complicated by the fact that power values are directly effected by noise. To reduce the ffect of noise, the noise power is first subtracted from each sample. Next, every sample that was determined to be part of the pulse is summed in a mean-square sense to determine the rms, or root mean square, value of the power.
Statistically the mean-square value is the most accurate estimate of the power. Using the estimation technique, even pulses below the noise floor can be detected.
